Magazine
Holds cartridges of one size for a gun with a box or belt feed. Guns with a cylinder, tube or barrels hold their rounds themselves and take no magazine (see Guns).
Sizes
The recipe decides the size. All of them are crafted from Iron Plates, except the belt:
| Magazine | Holds | Recipe |
|---|---|---|
| Small Magazine | 6 | 3 Iron Plates: P _ P over _ P _ |
| Magazine | 10 | 5 Iron Plates: P _ P over P P P |
| Extended Magazine | 20 | 7 Iron Plates: P _ P, P _ P, P P P |
| Drum Magazine | 50 | 8 Iron Plates: a ring |
| Ammo Belt | 100 | 3 Iron Nuggets in a row (belt-fed automatics only) |
Any gun of the right bore and feed takes any size.
Filling it
Put the magazine in a crafting grid with cartridges and take it out fuller. All the rounds in one magazine have to be the same bore. A magazine that already holds 9 mm rounds won't take 12 mm ones.
The tooltip shows how many rounds it holds and their size.
Using it
Hold a gun and hold R. Once R has been held for 1.4 s, the gun takes the fullest magazine of its bore in your inventory, and the old magazine (with whatever was left in it) goes back into your inventory in its place. Let go early, fire, or put the gun away and nothing is swapped.
A gun holds one magazine plus one round in the chamber, so a gun with a full 10-round magazine shows 11. With no magazine in, the HUD says NO MAGAZINE.
U unloads the gun: the magazine and the chambered round both come back to you. Do this if the barrel is SMOKING and you don't want a cook-off.
