Ice Box

A chest that keeps food cold for as long as it has ice. Put ice in it with the food: it is used up as it melts.

  • While it has ice the box holds near freezing, and food inside barely spoils.
  • A piece of ice lasts about ten minutes. When none is left, the air drifts back to the room's temperature and the food spoils at the room's rate. A box with no ice is just a chest.
  • What counts as ice is anything solid that melts at or under freezing, not a particular item.

Refrigeration Unit

Put a Refrigeration Unit against any face of the box and wire it up: while it is powered the box is held near freezing with no ice, and no ice is used up. When the power fails the box drifts back to the room like an ice-less one.
